Aromatic Onion Rice

Warm flavors of onion, cinnamon and clove make this a side dish a unique compliment to roast beef or baked chicken.

  • Ingredients
    1 bag Minute® Basmati Rice
    1 Tbsp vegetable oil
    1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
    1/2 tsp ground cardamom (optional)
    1/8 tsp ground cloves
    1/2 tsp ground cumin powder
    1 onion, thinly sliced
    1/2 tsp salt
    lettuce leaves (optional)
  • Directions
    Prepare rice according to package directions.  Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.  Add cinnamon, cardamom (if desired, substitute curry powder), cloves, and cumin. Cook and stir for about a minute, then add onions.  Sauté until onions are golden, about 10 minutes.  Add salt and rice.  Cook and stir until heated through. Serve on lettuce leaves, if desired.
